Today in Dutch WWII History: Liberation of Camp Westerbork

Today 65 years ago, 12 April 1945. The Canadians liberated  Camp Westerbork.


As of 1 July 1942 the Nazi's used the camp as Durchgangslager Westerbork (Passagecamp Westerbork).The departure point of a sum of 93 trains to Auschwitz, Sobibor, Theresientadt and Bergen-Belsen.
With the 93 trains a total of 107,000 people were transported to the deathcamps, only 5000 returned.


Today a commemoration will be held to remember it is 65 years ago that Camp Westerbork was liberated.
