Overloon Tournament, the After Action Report.

Finally my After Action Reports
Like I said in an other post I completely forgot to take pictures of my battles. Yes I feel ashamed. But this doesn't stop to write a little AAR about the battles that I played.
First there is a slideshow picturing all the tables used at the tournament. And at the end of this post there will be a list with the results of the tournament.

Game 1: Hasty attack.
Opponent:
Kampfgrupe Peiper
HQ koningstiger
5x Panzer IV J
1x Konigstiger
Full SS Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier
Full SS Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier
3x Puma (2cm)
4x Grille

This was indeed a Hasty Attack. After dployment I already noticed that I did something wrong but it was to late. I also should have chosen the other side of the table. At the left hand I had a full Parachute platoon doing nothing while on the right side a Airborne engineer platoon had to protect an objective. Further there was a Glider field artillery on the left hand and also a Anti tank platoon in Immediate Ambush. A better option should have been my second Parachute platoon as Immediate Ambush.
Turn 1.
After his Spearhead movement and his normal movement the Panzer platoon and 1 of the Panzergrenadier platoons were close to the objective on my right hand and thus on my Airborne engineers. His Panzergrenadiers jumped out of their halftracks.
I ranged in with my artillery on the Panzergrenadier platoon in the first attempt meaning Time on Target. Having all infantry teams and halftracks under the template plus Time on Target I thought this was my change. Yes 2 halftracks go up in flames but the disappointment was that only 1 of his infantry teams died.
Turn 2.
The Panzergrenadier platoon unpins. The shooting step several teams of my Engineers dye. The Panzergrenadier assault. My defensive has no result. Now with in seconds my Engineer teams protecting the objective are dead. My teams don't have the courage to fight on and move back. The Panzergrenadier platoon makes their consolidation move and by doing so my left over Engineer teams are even pushed back further away. I look at the situation. Noway I can get teams near enough to the objective to contest it. Game Over. 6-1 lose. And disappointed.

Game 2: Free for All
Opponent:
Panzerspah Company (GW)
HQ Puma
von Sauchen
3x Puma
3x Puma
3x Puma
Gepanzerte Aufklarungs platoon with PF
3x Hornisse
2x Tiger IE
2x nebelwerfer
2x armoured SdKfz 7/1

If you look at the picture below then my deployment-zone was at the topside of the picture (note: models on the table aren’t mine nor from my opponent). On my left flank (picture right side) I deployed 1 Glider field artillery platoon, on the hill was the Anti-Aircraft platoon. In front of the hill was the Airborne Engineer platoon and behind them and on the hill was a Parachute Platoon. In the middle at the edge was my Mortar platoon. On my right flank (picture left side) was my second Glider field artillery platoon. Next to it spreading out to the middle of my deployment zone was my second Parachute platoon. In front of these in a half circle I placed the Anti tank platoon. I placed 3 barbedwire sections in such way that all vehicles (specially the wheeled ones) had to move through slow going terrain (cornfield was slow going). And were forced to attack me at my right flank.
My opponent moved up and as expected choose my right flank to attack leaving only a Puma platoon and the armoured SdKfz 7/1 platoon at my left flank.
Although his nebelwerfers did range in they didn't do any damage. His Hornisse killed 1 of the Gun teams of the Glider Artillery platoon on my right flank while the second one was killed by a tiger. By more shooting I also lost 1 Anti tank gun. My Engineer platoon and Parachute platoon moved forward towards the Puma platoon. The only gun left at the right flank shot at the Hornisse but without effect. My anti-tank platoon fired there first salvo and some pumas went up in smoke. The artillery on my left flank ranged in on the pumas on the right flank with time on target killing some pumas. The Anti-Aircraft platoon shot at the puma platoon doing not much but a bazooka team from the engineers was able to destroy one. Now with 2 pumas left in this platoon and with an armoured SdKfz 7/1 that couldn't see the engineers I decided to charge the remaining pumas. With only 6 defensive fire shots it must be possible not to get pinned. But of the 6 shots there were 5 hits so the engineers got pinned and 1 team died. The para platoon was too far away to assault.
The germans keep on pondering the right flank. The 3rd artillery gun was killed by the hornisse but the remaining commander and staff team  kept their ground and didn't run. More anti-tank guns got killed but the parachute platoon kept their ground with ease. On the left flank the armoured SdKfz 7/1 moved forward and the pumas shot at my engineer platoon killing several teams. I finally wiped out one of the puma platoons on the right flank.  My artillery platoon managed to kill more teams. My mortar platoon placed a smoke bombardment on the armoured SdKfz 7/1. My Anti-Aircraft platoon shot at the puma platoon bailing 1. My now unpinned engineers placed a successful assault on the pumas which made the remaining puma fall back which meant that my parachute platoon couldn't reach it in a assault.
Now time is running out and it seems that we are in our last turn. I loose my last anti tank guns. The platoon is reduced to 2 bazookas and the commander but they refuse to flee the battlefield. Hornisse go for an assault which lead to the destruction of the remaining commander and staff team. Some para teams are killed but nothing to worry about. My engineers got some more killed teams and are below half strength but they also decide not to flee. As it seemed that this game would end in a draw because we both couldn't capture an objective I tried with my remaining engineer teams to assault a armoured SdKfz 7/1. Which was as expected a failure. Game Over. 2-2 draw. Great and fun game.

Game 3: Cauldron
Opponent:
Panzer company (GW)
HQ 2x Panzer IV H
5x Panzer IV H
5x Panzer IV H
Light Panzerspah Platoon (1x Sdkfz 223(radio) and 2x Sdkfz 222(2cm))
Schwere Panzer Platoon (2x Tiger 1E)
Walkure Platoon (with Smg/Panzerfaust Upgrade)

First I like to say that I don't like this mission at all specially when you play with well dug in Fearless Veteran Parachute company against an armoured company with no artillery.
My deployment-zone was at the topside of the picture below (note: models on the table aren’t mine nor from my opponent). I placed all my infantry platoons on the table, kept my anti-tank platoon in immediate ambush and placed artillery and anti-aircraft platoons in reserve. After opponents random deployment I placed my anti-tank platoon on the right flank right before the Parachute platoon forming a line of anti-tank guns and bazookas. In front of most of his Panzers. Then it was turn after turn in which not much happened opponent did some shooting but not many teams died and I did nothing at all. Opponent did once assault with a Panzer platoon right in the line of anti-tank guns and bazookas I did so many hits in defence fire that he lost 2 tanks and the 3 remaining had to fall back. It was the 1st and last assault. Because there was 1 Panzer platoon close to the edge where my reserves would arrive from he could kill each arriving platoon very easily. Because it had all symptoms that I would loose all my reserves and my opponent would never get to my defence line before time was up we (or maybe I) suggested to stop the battle because it would lead to nowhere and thus making it a 4-3 win for me. Sorry to say this but this was one of the most boring games ever played by me. And when I get bored I also lose interest in the game.

The results:
I finished 21.
First battle was against number 1, second battle against number 20 and the third battle was against number 25.

I had a great and fun day, even with not all the games went as planned, in a well organized tournament.
Maybe this year or else next year there will be a new tourney held at this location.

Thanks for reading.
